Addictions

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experiences with the purpose of staying sober and helping other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no fees, and AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution.

Al-Anon/Alateen
The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems. We believe alcoholism is a family illness and that changed attitudes can aid recovery.  Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic.

AlcoholScreening.org
AlcoholScreening.org is an easy-to-use, scientifically validated online alcohol screening test. Users answer a few quick questions, instantly finding out if their drinking patterns are likely to be risky or harmful.

Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator
SAMHSA’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service (in English and Spanish) for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.

Faces and Voices of Recovery
Faces & Voices of Recovery is a national campaign of individuals and organizations joining together with a united voice to advocate for public action to deliver the power, possibility and proof of recovery. Faces & Voices of Recovery is governed by a diverse group of recovery advocates from around the country and supports local recovery advocacy by increasing access to research, policy, organizing and technical support; facilitating relationships among local and regional groups; improving access to policymakers and the media; and providing a national rallying point for recovery advocates.

Join Together
Join Together, founded in 1991, supports community-based efforts to reduce, prevent, and treat substance abuse across the nation. We are funded primarily by a grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to the Boston University School of Public Health. In 2000, Join Together launched Demand Treatment!, an initiative to drive up the demand for treatment in American communities.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
Narcotics Anonymous is an international, community-based association of recovering drug addicts with more than 31,000 weekly meetings in over 100 countries worldwide.

National Association of Children of Alcoholics (NACoA)
NACoA is the national nonprofit working on behalf of children of alcohol and drug-dependent parents. NACoA advocates for all children and families affected by alcoholism and other drug dependencies.

The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA)
CASA works to study and combat all types of substance abuse.

National Council on Problem Gambling
The National Council on Problem Gambling works to increase public awareness of pathological gambling, ensure the availability of treatment for problem gamblers and their families, and to encourage research and programs for prevention and education.

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
NIAAA is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

National Institute on Drug Abuse
The National Institute on Drug Abuse’s mission is to lead the nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction.

Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
SAMHSA, a public health agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the lead federal agency for improving the quality and availability of substance abuse prevention, addiction treatment and mental health services in the United States.

Anxiety

Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA)
ADAA is a nonprofit organization that promotes the prevention, treatment and cure of anxiety disorders and to improve the lives of all people who suffer from them.

Freedom from Fear
Freedom from Fear is a national not-for-profit that works to positively impact the lives of all those affected by anxiety, depressive and related disorders through advocacy, education, research and community support.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)
NIMH is the lead federal agency for research on mental and behavioral disorders. NIMH works to improve mental health through biomedical research on mind, brain, and behavior.

National Mental Health Association (NMHA)
The National Mental Health Association is the country’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization addressing all aspects of mental health and mental illness. With more than 340 affiliates nationwide, NMHA works to improve the mental health of all Americans, especially the 54 million people with mental disorders, through advocacy, education, research and service.

Screening for Mental Mental Health (SMH)
SMH programs include in-person and online programs for depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, alcohol problems, and suicide prevention.

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA)
ADDA provides information, resources and networking opportunities to help adults with ADHD lead better lives. They provide hope, empowerment and connections worldwide by bringing together science and the human experience for adults with ADHD and the professionals who serve them.

Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD)
CHADD is the nation’s leading non-profit organization serving individuals with ADHD . Through collaborative leadership, advocacy, research, education and support, CHADD provides science-based, evidence-based information about ADHD to parents, educators, professionals, the media, and the  public.

National Resource Center on ADHD
The National Resource Center on ADHD is a national clearinghouse for the latest evidence-based information for individuals with ADHD, their families and friends, and the professionals involved in their lives.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA)

Families for Depression Awareness
Families for Depression Awareness helps families recognize and cope with depressive disorders.  They work to reduce stigma associated with depressive disorders and to unite families and help them heal in coping with depression.

American Dietetic Association (ADA)
ADA is the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. ADA promotes optimal nutrition, health and well-being.

National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD)
ANAD assists people struggling with eating disorders and provides resources for families, schools and the eating disorder community. ANAD offers counseling, a national network of free support groups, referrals to health care professionals, and education and prevention programs to promote self-acceptance and healthy lifestyles.

National Eating Disorders Association
The National Eating Disorders Association is dedicated to expanding public understanding of eating disorders and promoting access to quality treatment for those affected along with support for their families through education, advocacy and research. Their national helpline is available by phone, text, and chat.

Grief and Loss

Aging With Dignity
Aging with Dignity publishes Five Wishes, an easy-to-use legal document that helps adults of all ages plan for the care they want in case they become seriously ill.

Caring Connections
Caring Connections is a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.  It is a national consumer engagement to improve care at the end of life, supported by a grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  Caring Connections provides a variety of free resources on end-of life issues.

Compassionate Friends
Compassionate Friends provides comfort, hope, and support to families experiencing the death of a child, and helps others to assist the grieving family.

The Dougy Center for Grieving Children & Families
The Dougy Center provides peer support groups for grieving children. They provide free support and training to individuals and organizations seeking to assist children in grief.

Growth House, Inc.
Growth House, Inc., provides an award-winning database of resources for life-threatening illness and end-of-life care. The organization’s mission is to improve the quality of compassionate care for people who are dying through public education and global professional collaboration.

Hospice Foundation of America
The Hospice Foundation of America exists to help those who cope personally or professionally with terminal illness, death, and the process of grief and bereavement.

National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO)
NHPCO is committed to improving end of life care and expanding access to hospice care with the goal of profoundly enhancing quality of life for people dying in America and their loved ones.

Through the Heart
Through the Heart educates and supports anyone who is experiencing a pregnancy loss. They provide free Comfort Kits to those who have recently suffered a pregnancy loss.
